Jeep Extended Warranty Coverage
Mopar® is the official company that administers extended warranty plans for Jeep drivers. Mopar offers two primary Jeep extended VSCs through its Vehicle Protection program: the Maximum Care℠ plan (which covers over 5,000 components) and the Added Care Plus plan, which covers over 850 components.
What Does A Jeep Extended Warranty Cover?
The Maximum Care plan is similar to a bumper-to-bumper warranty – covering most components of the car, and only listing down the parts in the contract that are not covered. The Added Care Plus plan is similar to a powertrain warranty. It’s an inclusionary plan that lists each covered part and includes the:

Mopar Protection Plans For Pre-Owned Vehicles
If you have a Jeep CPO vehicle and you’d like to extend coverage, Mopar also offers three primary plans for used cars: Maximum Care℠, Added Care Plus, and Added Care plans. The Added Care plans cover 850 named components, including the engine, transmission, driveline, air conditioning, front suspension, and more.
Maximum Care for Pre-Owned Vehicles covers 5,000+ components and is also a bumper-to-bumper coverage. All three plans can run from 1 to 5 years and have mileage choices of 12,000, 15,000, or no limit.
Powertrain Care Plus: Limited Availability
Maximum Care and Added Care Plus are the VSCs primarily advertised by Mopar. However, you may find Powertrain Care Plus℠ and Added Care plans through certain dealerships. For dealerships that do offer Powertrain Care Plus, drivers can expect extended coverage for their engine, transmission, and 400+ components with term limits that range from 5 years/85,000 miles to 8 years/125,000 miles.

Jeep Extended Warranty Benefits
Most Jeep extended warranty plans are transferable to subsequent owners for a $50 fee. Another perk both plans include is trip interruption protection. Under this provision, Jeep’s extended warranty will cover up to $1,000 for meals, lodging, and rentals if your car breaks down because of a covered part failure. You have to be at least 100 miles from home to claim this perk, though. All of these benefits expire once your odometer reaches 100,000 miles.
Jeep Extended Warranty Cost
You can purchase a Jeep extended warranty outright or pay for it in installments. If you buy it when you purchase your Jeep, you can roll the cost into your monthly car payment, but you’ll be paying interest on it. If you purchase an MVP plan after your start date, however, you have to pay for it separately. In addition to the cost of the plan, you may be on the hook for a $200, $100, or $0 deductible. The amount depends on the type of plan you select.

In fall 2023, our team surveyed 1,000 people who had purchased extended warranties from manufacturers. About four percent of respondents bought a protection plan from Jeep. Here’s how much those Jeep owners said they paid for their extended warranties:

A little background information is helpful when we’re talking about Jeep’s extended warranty. Jeep is part of a group of car brands under the name Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles or FCA). FCA brand vehicles also include Dodge, Ram, Fiat®, Chrysler, and more.
Jeep’s extended warranty is easy to navigate. You can use it at any Stellantis brand dealerships, and all parts come from Mopar. Mopar is a subsidiary of Stellantis that handles all customer care, parts, and warranty services. The name comes from a mashup between “motor” and “parts.” A Jeep warranty is synonymous with a Mopar warranty.
Should You Consider An Extended Warranty?
One of the main benefits of an extended warranty is the peace of mind that your expenses won’t suddenly spike. While there is a chance that you won’t need to use the warranty to its full potential, there’s also a chance that it will save you from a repair bill that could cost thousands.
Car repairs can be unpredictable, but your budget doesn’t have to be. Extended warranties are especially helpful as cars get older. That’s why many factory warranties aren’t very long. So the main thing to consider is how likely your Jeep will break down as it ages.
Are Jeeps Reliable?
Jeeps are built for adventure. The brand has a culture that values ruggedness and experience. To back that up, Jeep is one of the few carmakers that produces passenger vehicles that you can take off-road. While that’s all true, Jeep vehicles aren’t immune to deterioration over time.
Looking at Jeep Wrangler reliability, we found that J.D. Power ranked Jeep in 17th place out of 31 car brands in its 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM. The study measures how many issues vehicles encounter after three years of ownership. Jeep vehicles experienced 196 issues per 100 cars on the road, which isn’t far above the industry average of 186. Still, it’s not an especially impressive ranking.
We also consulted Jeep’s performance according to RepairPal, a trusted site that analyzes average repair prices, part replacement costs, maintenance costs, recalls, and mechanical problems across many auto manufacturer brands and models.
RepairPal data shows that Jeep owners are more likely to experience severe problems when they go into the shop compared to other brands. A severe problem would cost significantly more than $400, and some people may have to go into debt to cover it.

When a Jeep breaks down, an extended warranty can help its owner from having to pay hefty repair bills out of pocket. Though some Jeep owners may feel the constant payments for the extended warranty to not be worth it for a mechanical breakdown that may or may not happen.

What Jeep Warranty Coverage Do You Already Have?
All new Jeeps come with a Basic Limited Warranty that covers defects in materials or workmanship. This is also called the bumper-to-bumper warranty, and it lasts for 3 years or 36,000 miles. New Jeeps also come with a Powertrain Limited Warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles. This Jeep warranty covers the engine, transmission, and drivetrain.
Those are the two standard warranties that most manufacturers provide, and the coverage periods are nothing out of the ordinary. Additionally, Jeep offers a limited corrosion warranty that pays for the repair or replacement of any metal sheets that have been rusted. This lasts for 3 years/36,000 miles for non-visible panels and 5 years/60,000 miles for exterior panels. This does not cover chips or surface rust spots in the finish.
Lastly, Jeep offers roadside assistance with new cars for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Compared to what most factory warranties cover, it’s a middle-of-the-road offering. The powertrain warranty is a decent length, but the bumper-to-bumper warranty is on the shorter end when compared to other brands.
What’s Wrong With Buying An Extended Warranty From Mopar?
To be eligible for a Jeep extended warranty from Mopar’s Vehicle Protection (MVP) program, you have to buy coverage before your factory warranty expires. As mentioned, your factory warranty contains a bumper-to-bumper warranty that lasts for 3 years/36,000 years and a powertrain warranty that lasts for 5 years/60,000 miles.
The catch is when an MVP plan is bought, it goes into effect immediately. So if you still have two years left on your bumper-to-bumper warranty, your MVP coverage will overlap with your factory coverage by two years.
Waiting until the end of the 3-year/36,000-mile window means the new coverage will still overlap with the existing powertrain warranty by two years. On top of that, Mopar can add surcharges if you purchase an MVP plan after your car reaches 1 year or 12,000 miles.
None of these scenarios give you a reasonable amount of time to decide if you want a Jeep extended warranty, but if you choose an MVP plan, you’ll get factory-backed protection with genuine Mopar parts. There’s also an option to extend your MVP coverage up to 12 years/160,000 miles with Mopar Vehicle Protection Extended (MVPE).
As with all factory-backed plans, Jeep’s extended warranty requires that you get your Jeep repaired at a dealership. The downside is that you can’t pick your own repair shop. There may be times when you go in for a repair, and one part is covered while another isn’t. Typically, dealership repair costs are higher than independent shops.
Buying A Jeep Extended Warranty From A Third-Party Company
Stellantis’s Mopar program isn’t your only source for getting extended protection for your Jeep. You can also buy a VSC from an independent company that specializes in administering extended warranties. Third-party warranty companies often come with these benefits over auto manufacturers like Jeep:
- More coverage options: Jeep only offers you two to three extended warranties to choose from, while independent companies often come with five to six different plans.
- Lower costs: Because third-party companies give more coverage levels in general, this can help you choose a cheaper plan that better fits your budget, if need be.
- Longer mileage and term limits: Mopar’s plans only go up to 150,000 miles, but independent providers often take their mileage limits past 250,000.
- Wider purchase windows: You have to buy an MVP plan before your factory warranty expires, but you can buy a VSC from a third-party provider any time.
While there are a large number of options, not all are created equal. Also, you should be aware that sometimes Jeep dealerships may try to sell a third-party warranty to you without adequately explaining that it’s not really Jeep’s extended warranty. If you’re presented with a third-party plan at a dealership, ask for some time to read the whole contract. That will save you from surprises later on down the road.
