Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, offers a certified pre-owned (CPO) program that is split into three coverage tiers. We’ve researched the Infiniti CPO program and its warranties, and in this article, we’ll point out its strengths and weaknesses.

Some drivers may choose to buy an extended auto warranty for their Infiniti CPO vehicle. You can choose a warranty sold by Infiniti dealers or a plan from a third-party warranty company. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

We’ve spent over 1,475 hours researching extended warranty companies. Contact one or more companies to price quotes and find the best warranty value for your CPO Infiniti.

Infiniti CPO Warranty Details

CPO programs offered by carmakers are designed to resell the “youngest” of the brand’s used cars. Many of these are lease returns, which are vehicles turned in when the customers’ lease terms expire.

Infiniti-trained dealer technicians “certify” these vehicles by performing a comprehensive inspection, servicing them, and performing any needed repairs or part replacements to ensure the car meets the brand’s standards for certification. The CPO vehicles are then offered for sale with a warranty.

Infiniti will certify vehicles less than 10 years old with up to 100,000 miles on them. The company has three levels of certification for its cars – all of which come with varying warranty terms based on certain qualifications. We’ll take an in-depth look at each level.

Infiniti CPO Warranty Coverage

Many brands give you any remaining portion of the new vehicle warranty, plus an additional CPO warranty and sometimes a longer powertrain warranty. Infiniti does things a little differently, however.

An Infiniti CPO vehicle will come with one of three different levels of warranty coverage, depending on its age and mileage. The differences among the three tiers may help guide your purchase and also your need for an extended car warranty. Infiniti’s CPO warranty program tiers are known as Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned, Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Select, and Certified Pre-Owned Select (for models from other automakers). Learn what qualifies a car for each level below.

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

Infiniti models that have less than 60,000 miles and are up to 5 years old are eligible for the Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned program. Vehicles undergo a 167-point inspection and are provided the following warranty and benefits:

  • $0 deductible for repairs
  • 6-year/75,000-mile warranty (cars with less than 15,000 miles)
  • 6-year/unlimited-mileage warranty (cars with less than 60,000 miles)
  • Complimentary first-year basic maintenance plan

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Select Vehicles

Infiniti’s Certified Pre-Owned Select program considers Infiniti models that are up to 10 years old with up to 100,000 miles on them. Because the vehicles that qualify are significantly older than those in the CPO program, the warranty provided isn’t as long. Cars undergo an 84-point inspection during the qualifying process and are offered the following benefits:

  • $100 deductible for repairs
  • 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty
  • One complimentary maintenance visit within your warranty period

Certified Pre-Owned Select Cars

Infiniti not only provides CPO coverage for models under the brand – it also offers protection for cars from other automakers that are sold by Infiniti retailers. Certified Pre-Owned Select cars go through an 84-point inspection and come with the following:

  • $100 deductible for repairs
  • 6-month/6,000-mile warranty
  • One complimentary maintenance visit within the first year of ownership

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Inspection

Infiniti CPO vehicles start out with a comprehensive 167-point certification inspection. It’s important to not compare the number of “points” from brand to brand. All do CPO inspections slightly differently. We examined the Infiniti CPO inspection checklist and can say it’s quite comprehensive.

The 167 items on the Infiniti CPO checklist cover all of the car’s mechanical systems, exterior, interior, audio and navigation systems, wheels and tires, and more. Like all brands’ CPO program inspections, Infiniti’s starts with verifying vehicle history using its own warranty and service databases, plus a Carfax vehicle history report. These reports come with a 3-year buyback guarantee. The customer can view the Carfax reports for individual CPO vehicles on the Infiniti website.

You can also view the vehicle’s original window sticker to see all standard equipment and options, and the original manufacturer’s suggested retail price. (Remember that most new Infiniti vehicles are leased, so it can be difficult to compare the deal you’re getting on a CPO vehicle to the original MSRP.)

Infiniti CPO Warranty Exclusions

The Infiniti warranty booklet states that the warranty “extends the basic coverage of the Infiniti New Vehicle Limited Warranty” except for some specific items. Other brands exclude some of the same things, such as maintenance and wear items, including brake rotors and pads, engine belts and hoses, and shock absorbers.

Yet, there are other items on the list that would be expensive to replace should they fail. Be aware that the Infiniti CPO warranty does not cover the following:

  • “Any and all” in-vehicle communication systems
  • Audio, navigation, and entertainment system components
  • Exhaust system from the catalytic converter back
  • Immobilizer key
  • Remote keyless entry switch assembly
  • Squeaks and rattles
  • Vehicle paint
  • Water leaks
  • Weatherstripping

Infiniti CPO Roadside Assistance Benefits

Infiniti includes an emergency roadside assistance package that includes access to the following benefits for all Certified Pre-Owned Infiniti vehicles:

Infiniti CPO PerkDetails
24-hour roadside assistanceYou’ll benefit from battery jump-starts, flat tire changes (using your spare), fuel deliveries (2.0 gallon maximum up to five times per calendar year), and lock-out assistance services for up to a maximum of $100.
Towing assistanceIf your car suffers from a mechanical breakdown, an Infinini representative will arrange for it to be towed to the nearest Infiniti dealership. Limits are $100 per claim.
Trip interruption benefitsReimbursement of meals, alternate transportation, and lodging will be provided if you suffer a mechanical breakdown more than 100 miles away from home. Benefits may not exceed $500 total.
Alternate transportationIf a service courtesy vehicle isn’t available under Infiniti’s Total Ownership Experience®, Infiniti will provide $50 per day (maximum $250) for Infiniti CPO models and $42 a day (maximum $210) for other automaker models.

Another benefit is that the Certified Limited Warranty that comes with your CPO vehicle can be transferred to one private party in the event you choose to sell the car. The transfer certificate can be found on the last page of your warranty registration, but if you don’t have it, you can contact Infiniti for a new certificate.

Do You Need An Infiniti CPO Extended Warranty?

You can know if you need an Infiniti extended warranty by looking at the average cost of mechanical breakdown repairs for Infiniti cars. If the average costs are not something you’d feel comfortable paying for out of pocket, an Infiniti extended warranty may be for you. It’s also good to know how reliable Infiniti CPO vehicles are.

Infiniti Reliability

Infiniti has average reliability ratings. RepairPal ranked the brand 16th out of 32 total car brands. In addition, the 2023 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠,  ranked the brand below the industry average as measured by the number of problems per 100 cars. This annual study assesses owners’ problems with vehicles after three years of ownership (or leasing).

RepairPal provides helpful information on the average repair costs of common repairs across Infiniti models. Take a look at the table below for some of these costs:

Infiniti ModelRepairEstimated Cost
Infiniti QX50Oil pressure sensor replacement$276 to $327
Infiniti Q60Wheel speed sensor replacement$308 to $358
Infiniti Q50Battery cable replacement$709 to $761
Infiniti QX80Catalytic converter replacement$1,657 to $1,680

Infiniti’s Elite Protection Wrap Plan

If you’re looking for extended coverage for your CPO Infiniti model, you can buy an Infiniti CPO Wrap plan from Infiniti’s Elite® Protection Program, which includes:

  • Optional coverage of up to 8 years/unlimited miles
  • $0 deductible for parts and labor for any covered repair
  • Expanded component coverage, including audio, navigation, and mobile entertainment
  • Expanded Roadside Assistance and Reunite Service, which covers the cost of reuniting you with your vehicle if you had to leave it for repair

This extended warranty is transferable to a new owner should you sell the Infiniti CPO vehicle. While this is a solid manufacturer-backed extended warranty plan, there are other third-party options that may suit your needs and budget better.

Our Manufacturer Warranty Survey

Our team launched a survey in December 2023 to better understand car owners’ experiences with extended warranties from automakers.

One driver with an Infiniti G20 with under 50,000 miles said, “I was very satisfied with the coverage. The repairs were taken care of at the dealership in a timely manner.” However, she wasn’t sure if she would consider purchasing the same level of coverage again.

Infiniti CPO Warranty: Bottom Line

Overall, we like Infiniti’s CPO program because it’s one of the strongest on the market. If you think you’d want to keep a CPO Infiniti for longer than its warranty term, though, we suggest considering an extended warranty. We encourage you to reach out to both Infiniti dealerships and third-party providers to compare extended protection plans and prices. This way, you’ll find what suits you best.

Infiniti Vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty Coverage

Our latest extended warranty consumer survey found that almost 60 percent of the 1,000 participants who purchased coverage from a vehicle manufacturer would consider an extended protection plan from a third-party provider next time. There are several reasons to consider a plan from a reputable extended car warranty company, including:

  • Up to 10 years of coverage available, versus 8 years with an Infiniti extended warranty
  • Wider choice of plan coverage options and prices
  • Freedom to have your Infiniti repaired at more than 30,000 facilities across the U.S. (versus only 200 Infiniti dealers)
  • Roadside assistance and trip interruption benefits comparable or more generous than Infiniti’s plan

Our team has spent over 1,475 hours researching extended warranties to help you make an informed decision on coverage for your car. We’ve mystery shopped and gathered hundreds of quotes, surveyed thousands of past and present extended warranty owners, and poured over customer reviews on websites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot.

We have secret shopped with more than 40 providers and found average rates to be between $120 and $135 per month across popular makes and models.

Infiniti CPO Warranty: FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions about Infiniti’s warranties:

How long is the Infiniti warranty?

Infiniti’s factory warranty offers 4 years/60,000 miles of basic (bumper-to-bumper) coverage and 6 years/70,000 miles of powertrain protection for every new Infiniti model. Other warranties included are corrosion coverage and various emissions warranties.

How long is the warranty on Infiniti CPO cars?

Infiniti’s CPO warranty can last up to 6 years/unlimited miles depending on which CPO tier a vehicle falls under. For instance, if a car is a Certified Pre-Owned Select car instead of just Certified Pre-Owned, it’ll only have a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty.

How much does an Infiniti extended warranty cost?

You’ll need to contact an Infiniti dealer for quotes on an Infiniti extended warranty, as the automaker doesn’t freely provide quotes for its extended protection online.
